The Best Cities for Singles in the US

Updated on October 22, 2018

Whether you are looking for the best singles vacation destinations or looking to relocate to a US city with more dating opportunities, this list highlights the cities in the US where you have the best chance of meeting singles.

How We Chose the Cities

We used Facebook tools to analyze the profiles of tens of thousands of users across the 50 largest cities in the US. Focusing on just users aged 20+ who specified their relationship status as single, we then compared the number of men and women to create a ratio of single men to single women in each city. Cities are then ranked based on the difference between single women and single men allowing us to determine for each city how much it skews towards singles of each gender.

We'll start with the top 5 places for single women looking to meet single men, followed by the top 5 places for single men looking to meet single women.

The Top 5 Cities for Single Women

First up comes the cities where single men outnumber single women. These are the top five cities in the US where the ratio of single men to single women is the highest, giving you the best chance to meet single men:

Number 5: Austin, Texas

120 single men per 100 single women

Plenty of single men are turning up the heat and gathering in this liberal enclave in Texas. However, much of this ratio is attributable to the younger age groups where single men significantly outnumber single women. For those over the age of 50, the ratio of single men to single women drops off significantly, so while Austin is an ideal option for those looking to meet younger single men, those looking to meet senior single men might do better to look elsewhere.

Number 4: Denver, Colorado

125 single men per 100 single women

The mile high city has attracted a fair amount of eligible single men to the foot of the Rocky Mountains. This city's ratio is driven by a large proportion of single men in the 30-50 age range and while not performing as poorly as Austin for the over 50s, it still ranks lower for senior singles than others on this list.

Number 3: San Jose, California

132 single men per 100 single women

The influx of tech talent to Silicon Valley appears to have created a city that skews towards single men, and specifically younger men—San Jose is one of the top performers when it comes to the ratio of single men to single women in the 20-40 age group.

Number 2: San Francisco, California

133 single men per 100 single women

San Francisco is another city where the influx of tech workers has led to a significant skew in the single men-to-women ratio. However, in San Francisco, it would appear that the single men are predominately in the older generations, with San Francisco having the highest ratio of any city for single men over the age of 40.

Number 1: Seattle, Washington

134 single men per 100 single women

And the winner is... Seattle! The single men-to-women ratio is bolstered by the fact that for the 30-40 age group, Seattle has the highest ratio of any major US city by a huge margin, making this the ideal city to find hot single men in their 30s. A strong performance across every other age range means that the Emerald City takes the honors as the best city in the US overall for single women looking to meet single men.

The Top 5 Cities for Single Men

Next up, its the cities where single women outnumber single men. These are the top five cities in the US where the ratio of single women to single men is the highest, giving you the best chance to meet single women:

But the odds are specifically stacked in your favor in Nashville if you are looking to meet single ladies in their 20s, with Nashville having one of the highest single women-to-men ratios for this age range of all the cities analysed.

Number 4 (tied): Atlanta, Georgia

105 single women for every 100 single men

The single women are steaming up the city of "Hotlanta" coming in tied 4th on our list. While not being ideal for those looking for older ladies (the ratio of single women over 50 is relatively low in Atlanta), the overall ratio is buoyed by the city having one of the highest ratios of single ladies in their 30s.

Number 3: Charlotte, North Carolina

106 single women for every 100 single men

The Queen City has rolled out the red carpet when it comes to the number of single women. While Charlotte performs relatively well in most age brackets, it is particularity favorable for those looking for ladies in their 40s, with this city coming top for this age range of all the cities we analyzed.

Number 2: San Antonio, Texas

108 single women per 100 single men

It's getting hot down south with San Antonio coming in at number 2. San Antonio has a relatively high ratio of single women-to-men in all age ranges and performs particularly well for the possibility of meeting single ladies in their 20s.

Number 1: Memphis, Tennessee

110 single women per 100 single men
