The Self-Worth Alphabet for the Confident Woman

MsDora, Certified Christian Counselor, has spent over 20 years empowering young and adult women to pursue positive, productive womanhood.

How to Use the Self-Worth Alphabet for Individual Benefit

Pick a letter—any letter—and focus on the attribute listed beside it. For example:

  • F--Fragrant. [Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance (2 Corinthians 2:15).]

Copy the Scripture verse and source into your notebook if you do not have the time to memorize it. Put it in your purse (or in some appropriate spot in the house on your stay-at-home day). Read it repeatedly whenever you have a spare moment.

At bedtime, close your eyes and make the effort to inscribe the letter, the attribute and the quote on your brain. Drift off to sleep with a smile on your face, as you think about that beautiful description of who you are. Even if you think that you do not yet possess that attribute, assure yourself that you can and will, eventually.

Close your eyes and think about that beautiful self-description.

What an easy, simple method for you, the godly woman, to strengthen your self-worth arsenal one day at a time! Storing these words and quotes in your memory will guarantee that they resurface in your thoughts and speech right when you need them:

  • when meanness threatens your sense of worth;
  • when ingratitude tempts you to doubt the value of your effort;
  • when other human vices frustrate you and sap your spirit;
  • when someone else asks to lean on your strength;
  • when your joy needs rekindling.

How the Use Self-Worth Alphabet in A Group

Feel free to improvise and add other appropriate activities to the three suggestions below. The aim is to help your group focus and remember these positive characteristics.

  • At a weekend female gathering—for retreat or training, assign a letter or two to each woman (depending on the size of the group) so that the entire alphabet is used up. In your closing ceremony, have them participate in a recitation of affirmations: “I (or we) are __________ (assigned attribute) as promised to us in the Scriptures (citing verse and text location). The inspiring, empowering closeout will be long remembered.
  • Play a Bible game at home with friends or relatives, or at a church group event. After a short period of time for individuals to read through the alphabet, test their memories by having the group leader call on individuals to respond with the correct attribute to each letter.
  • Among a circle of friends, inspire each other with stories of how one or more of these attributes helped your spirits soar, in the midst of circumstances which threaten to pull you down.

Fallen but Still Attractive--or Fragrant--or Loved!

Why Include the Scripture Verses?

  • They help you overcome temptation.
  • They increase awareness of God's will in your life.
  • They help you thrive during difficult times.
  • They make you a better witness.
  • They strengthen your connection with God.

Since you do not always have access to a Bible, the Bible verses in your memory provide a permanent mental tool to empower your right attitude, and your right action or reaction. You'll stay happy with your yourself!

      Tamara, believe it or not, that X word is a new one for me too. How good is God? I play my word games sometimes when I lie in my bed at night. Let's keep on nurturing our worth to the glory of God our Creator. Please share all you want to. Thanks! Love, Dora

      W0men even Christian women are so down on themselves. Society, no matter how we protest and how many feminists rage, still demeans women in the movies and television. It puts a heavy pressure on women to look and act certain ways that are superficial and just plain non important.

      This is a builder upper, which you are so good at offering her on HP. Using the alphabet and Scriptures to support is very helpful. Thanks again for another amazing hub.

      You did "X", too! I just learned a new word :-) I forwarded your bright and cheery Hub, here, to my email because I want to study it in-depth as I would like to keep my mind preoccupied in these lovely letters that will remind me of joy in God's Love!

      I, also, might like to share it on my Facebook with my Facebook friends. I deactivated my FB awhile ago due to some technical issues, but am up & running, again.

      I like to play word games in my head when I'm walking thru the park, swinging on a swing, or just getting ready to fall asleep. This is a perfect way to keep my mind, and my heart happy.

      Thank you! I don't know why I had never thought of this...

      Hugsssss,

      Tamara

      Marie, thanks especially for your affirmation on those two words. I figured that sharing (or not sharing) her "vineyard" is a major responsibility for the woman. "Xenial" is a new word I learned in the process and the verse encouraging not just hospitality, but hospitality to strangers is what it's about. I really appreciate your comment.

      Yes, creative, inspirational, and clever, all as previous commenters have noted.

      Personally, I had to stop and think about how the quotations for "responsible" and "xenial" fit together, but it didn't take too long to see how they were related.

      A charming piece, Dora! Love and blessings are sent your way.

      Lovely Dora! Spectacular how all the scriptures point to God as the source of all of these attributes.

      The charts are very useful.

      Very inspiring alphabet MsDora. I think it would be interesting to see if you can create a similar list for men. I sometimes think that it is easier for women to create a supportive 'sisterhood' network around themselves but not so easy for men.
