Much of this relates to stereotypical representations in movies and television. The other reason can be traced to shady operators who want nothing more than to shake people down for money.

Moon Signs, Astrology and Psychology

Before we dive deep, you have a right to know who is authoring this piece. I would want to know this material if I were a reader.

Right off the bat, I’ll share that I’m not an astrologer nor a psychic. I’m also not a reader. Instead, I’m a counselor and educator that is formally trained in psychology.

For reasons that are beyond my level of awareness, I’ve always been attracted to the world of spirituality.

While it would be easy to suggest my interests are magically linked to being Scorpio, I’m not sure that’s the case.

Instead, I believe it’s more about my fascination with psychology and how astrology and human behavior intersect.

There is a special school of psychology known as Jungian Psychology; named after the famous psychotherapist, Carl Jung. He conceptualized something called personality archetypes.

That’s a ten-dollar term used to describe specific parts of a person’s essence that are accessed through imaginative states, like dreams.

Once we move away from the metaphysical and link it to things like Jung’s archetypes, the mystical and mysterious become much more concrete.

Make sense?

In any event, the chart below offers a graphical depiction of tall 12 moon signs.

Definition

In the traditions of horoscopic astrology, moon signs are thought to be the innermost reflection of your personality. They work in conjunction with your primary Zodiac sign, also called your sun sign, to establish persona.

Example: Janet was born on February 28. This makes her a Pisces. When people ask her what her zodiac sign is, she responds by saying, “I am Pisces.”

Janet’s is 100% accurate. She is absolutely that water sign. But what she may not know is that part of her emotional makeup is influenced by the exact position of the moon in the sky at the time she was born.

Let’s continue using Janet as an example to find out more.

Moon Signs Represent Your Inner Most Core

How to Find Your Moon Sign

How Are They Determined?

Identifying your moon sign requires knowing three specific pieces of information. They are:

  • Date of birth
  • Exact time of birth
  • Exact location of birth

Because the moon revolves around our planet and we orbit the sun, the location of the moon is constantly changing.

To discover where the moon was in the sky in relation to your birth information, you have two choices. 1) Consult a professional astrologer or; 2) Use a free online calculator.

If you decide to go with choice number two, there are plenty of options online that can be found using an Internet search. I’m also including a moon sign calculator to Astrocal.

The video below offers more insight. I highly recommend that you watch.

Most all moon calculators are created using an Ephemeris; a table of planetary motion.

How They Affect Personality: An Example

In Janet’s case, she was born on February 28, 1988, at 5:30 am in New York City. Upon inputting the three required data points into the calculator, she discovered her moon sign is Cancer.

Armed with this information, she now has a better idea of what makes up her entire personality. In her case, she is a Pisces that is influenced heavily by her moon sign, Cancer.

Translation: Janet is an emotionally deep person that is highly sensitive and empathic.

Some people think of their moon sign as the male aspect of their personality. Moon signs, respectively, are considered the female part.

I like to think of this construct in psychological terms. In other words, as Carl Jung might say, there are many parts that make up the whole.

Moon signs color the mosaic of your inner person and help shape how your primary zodiac sign is expressed.

In the case of Janet, she has a caring, loving and giving persona because of her Pisces core, amplified by her Cancer Moon sign.

Having a moon sign doesn’t mean that’s your new zodiac. All it means is that it informs your zodiac’s expression.

See how that works?

I encourage you to learn all you can about the different aspects of your personality. Doing so will provide insight into who you are and how you relate to the world.

Remember, moon signs come to us from the ancients. I encourage you to think of your moon sign metaphorically; like Jung did with archetypes.

Taking too much of it literally probably isn’t a good idea.

Thanks for stopping by.

I liked reading this very much. To be honest I never knew much about moon signs because it seemed silly. But reading this makes a lot of sense. Beautifully written by the way.
