Who Should You Date From the Harry Potter Series?
With so many characters in the Harry Potter series, you may have thought who, if they could come out of the books into real life, would make the perfect mate for you. In this detailed page, you will find exactly who would make the most sense for you, and maybe that can be revealing in itself. For the sake of keeping this hub somewhat contained, this will only focus on the younger characters of the series. Though Dumbledore, Snape, and McGonagall are exceptional choices, it would be too much to include.
Alright, let us start with the hero of the story.
Harry is a thoughtful character, who may at times brood on his emotions and ideas. He can be a crowd favorite, but at times the crowd and his friends don't like him. He has learned to listen to his gut and go with what is best regardless of how it may annoy others. Harry is resourceful; he can live in poor conditions as evidenced by his childhood. He likes to have longterm friends, and likes woman to be his friend first. He might not be the sharpest of all the men, but he tends to be talented, creative, and multilingual. He has empathy for others, he often could relate to his friend Ron and understood Ron's dismay at being poor, and Harry generally took these situations well. Harry prefer to have mentors in his life, so expect to have lots of strange dinner guests at your home.
Harry isn't the most tidy character, he is more laid back and at times wonders well into introspection and introversion. He is a Gryffindor which stands for bravery and also the element of fire which connects to creativity, vision, and resourcefulness. Harry is loyal and would never cheat on his mate. He desires to be a good father and also to have a wonderful career. Though his parents died when he was a baby, during his stay at Hogwarts he learned from his father's lessons and so Harry is not as haughty as James.
Harry leans more toward the sensitivity and understanding of his mother. Harry is up for adventures, but also likes home life. He may want to have a pet, like an owl or some other sophisticated animal, like a purebred dog or horses, not rats.
- Known for good kissing
- Excellent dancer
- Can only focus on one woman at a time
- Cares about his friendships
- Likes change of scenery
- Can be moody
- May have visions of the dark side
- People may envy him
- Sometimes can be a bit of a loner
The lovely Hermione is best suited for someone who likes conversation, a bit of a know-it-all, someone who will take to social justice, and someone who is sensitive. Hermione loves to study, she wants to know everything she can; she is also vulnerable because she often feels like she is not exactly one in the in the crowd, especially since her family are not magic users. Hermione needs someone who can bring her out of her shell and help her with her vulnerable spots. If you are looking for someone with a great deal of intelligence, modesty, ambition, and at time stubbornness, Hermione is great.
Though in her older years she takes more care of herself, from her hair to her clothes, her younger self didn't much care for frizzy locks and borish clothes. It takes someone to remind her that she is beautiful and capable. It is not to be expected to beat Hermione in a board game, so if you are too competitive you may want to stay clear of Hermione. She is loyal and true; she won't take to doing what is wrong. She can be a pain in the butt for rules, and honestly sees education as a bigger deal than death.
She has a quiet sense of humor that only comes out around those who are close to her. She cares about her talents, her career, her family, friends, or any relationship she finds herself. She is passionate and if she didn't have to sleep -- she wouldn't. She can be precocious and sometimes get herself into trouble because she'll have tunnel vision, but she speaks her mind and her heart. She cares about the less fortunate, sometimes more than her own friends. She is disciplined to the core and tries to teach others of this expectation.
- Loyal to the core
- Desired by many
- Promising of a good family and fortune
- Can be a know-it-all
- Sometimes flies off the handle with her emotions
- Has odd priorities at times
- At low moments, loses her security in herself
Ron is a warm character, he comes from a great family, he loves his friends, is slightly more extroverted than his best friends, he doesn't always feel like he is the best at anything -- but he proves himself whether in chess or Quidditch. Ron is a supportive boyfriend, who will call you out on your ridiculousness and also push you to grow and look deeper within. He sometimes feels overshadowed by his outrageously awesome friends or his ambitious family. He likes to be laid back, he enjoys a good laugh, a good beer, and sports. He deeply cares about the women in his life being both protective of his mother and sister.
He despises traitors whether from other Hogwarts houses or even in his own family. He genuinely wants to be a gracious and loving friend. He'd gladly go the extra mile to take someone home or to surprise them with a gift, though the idea of figuring out what that gift might be could cause anxiety. He hates spiders and can like weird pets for friends, like rats. He does like pretty things and if he could have the finances he would be nicer things. At times he envies those around him who do have money, but Ron is on a track that he should have a good career regardless. He can become overly upset and blow situations up to where he can't rationalize, but he does have a way of making things concise, linear, and with a good sense of priority.
He can be a bit a on air when lovestruck and may become useless to others. He has has a great deal of pride in his family and would never accept you if his family did not accept you. He is not so interested in the pointless parts of education, he may sleep through this.
- Excellent kisser
- Excellent sense of humor
- Loves to play games and dates
- Remembers what is told him
- Can be a bit messy
- Distracted at times when in love
- Might find certain inappropriate things funny
- Needs motivation at times
She's one of the most introverted characters in the series. Dating Luna would be like dating the most calm person in the world, she's also markedly quirky, considered one of the smartest people in her community, creates her own clothes, and is well suited to handle traumatic problems. Luna is kindred spirit, don't expect her to go off the handle or be really heated. She is gentle, soft spoken, and not argumentative but often magically right. She can be a bit uncomfortably weird, and sometimes she is outcast due to this.
She loves to go on walks by her self and she delights in one-on-one conversations. She acknowledges ugliness with beauty, she rarely lets her temperament succumb to ill will. She can often be mysterious and intuitive, which people tend to like more as they get to know her. She loves the esoteric, the Quibbler for instance, and makes friends well with others who are outcast. She doesn't seem to play into hierarchy, but is generally easily amused and finds beauty in the oddest of things. She has some difficulty in making friends and keeping them, but she does not pout about this. She is wise beyond her years, and unfortunately had to witness death at a young age.
She does have a fondness for keeping things clean and suited to her liking. She may be difficult to get to know due to her outrageous independence and calm demeanor. She is a prize to win and would never cheat or even consider such a thought. If she really liked you she would tell you more about her weird interests, she would love taking you on walks, and giving you wondrously weird gifts. She would be interested in knowing who you are, but she may first arrive at this objectively.
- Amazing gift giver
- Loves one-on-one time
- Easily amused
- Gentle at addressing conflict
- May struggle to reveal her emotions
- May be so weird at times that it doesn't make sense at first
- Can take time to get to things because she sees no hurry
- At times too shy
- May feel awkward and outcast around certain people
Draco is for those who want a thrill seeker, someone who doesn't care so much about the rules, likes trouble, being on the edge, money, power, excitement, even danger. Slytherins are cunning and resourceful. Draco isn't an all bad kid, so if you can see through that -- you are doing well. He is ambitious, he may get mixed up with the wrong side, shrewd, and even malicious, but he is protective. He belongs to the elite and therefore has a great deal of charm, estate, and power to his side. He has tight connections with his family, which can be overbearing.
As a lover, he is dedicated, would want to showcase you to the world, and would cover you in diamonds. He might become apathetic or disengaged, but if he really loves you he would show you he adores you. He is a bit ruled by emotion and can be caught up in the petty, in the end he has met the dark side and has decided against it. He does well at making connections and being popular. If he doesn't like someone, he can be a real jerk to them. But if he does like someone, he will do what he can to keep that person in good standing.
Draco isn't so much about virtue or ethics, he is cunning and looking for other more complex dreams. As a boyfriend, he would entreat you to holiday weekends, castles, fine clubs, and expensive gifts. There would never be an end to his love that grows passionate, unless you turn on him -- then he will be scarily cold and with a vengeance. He doesn't require intelligence, he does require some amount of material and resource, connections speak to him. He would not want to mix with someone who has poor connections.
- Insanely amazing lover, will make it known with materials and physically
- Would treat you like a princess
- Likes to experiment with more exotic adventures
- Cold when he doesn't feel you are loyal
- Does not handle romance well when bored
- Can at times be a jerk to others
- Laughs at inappropriate times
Neville might not be the most handsome in the series, he might not be the wisest, or even the most talented. He is one of the most courageous as he often has to stand up to his friends, enemies, teachers, and family. He comes from a sad family line and would be empathetic to your sadness. He has a love for plants, and so would bring greenery into your life from a nice garden to pretty flowers on the kitchen table. He becomes a leader in his later teenage years; he looks after Hogwarts in the absence of his classmates Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Neville will speak honestly about his feelings and he feels scorned. He continues forward even if things for him are not clicking. He visits his parents even though this is painful and amounts to little payback for him. Neville understands what is evil and he knows how to stand for what is good. He spends a great deal of his teenage years as an outcast, often made fun of, and even reduced by those that he considers friends. He has a great deal of inner strength to face all these struggles, and without him Harry might not have succeeded in the end.
Neville blossoms into a mature man, who though might not be the most wise is definitely trustworthy and keeps his end of the deal. He tries his best to get people to do what is right and to see what is consequence. He is not tempted by darkness but hates it due to what darkness has done to his family. He struggles with his weight and knows personally what that feels like. He is not one to mock, but protect. He would lay down his life for someone, or go the distance to carry a wounded soldier home.
- Always believes in what is good and follows through
- Has a love for life and wants to see it grow, be nurtured, and blossom
- Would be a sensitive boyfriend
- Is genuine rather than putting off fake airs
- May have a hard time understanding things
- Doesn't always know how to connect with others
- Can be engrossed in specific things for long periods of time, like toads and plants
- May find himself worn out from being brought down by others
- May have difficulty sharing his romantic feelings
From the house of Hufflepuff, Cedric is automatically patient, loyal, well mannered, and a hard worker. Cedric is a popular student who gets along well with others while also being mature, kind, and a good leader. He is in the top of his class and yet doesn't rub it in people's faces. He has honor in his actions and respects the family, house, and friends he has. He picks up new talents quickly, is resourceful, manages his time well, and can be put under pressure. He is notably modest and fair.
On top of all that, he is one of the most handsome characters in the entire series and somehow is not vain about it. He could have easily been a complete jerk to Harry during the Triwizard competition, but instead encouraged his house to be supportive, at least kind, to Harry. He see from multiple angles and is able to quickly assess what is happening; he is not ruled by emotion but rather logic and hard work. He does not need lots of money or prizes, he simply wants to achieve his best and to encourage the people around him.
He lightens up a room and pushes people to their best. He has a magnetic soul and can lead without having to be too aggressive. He at times is gentle while at other times can be directive. As a boyfriend, he would be both comforting and motivating. He would know when to be a shoulder to cry on while also knowing when to spark your talents. He would like going to events with you and also meeting your family and friends. He would have a soft spot for activities where the two of you must work together. He would want to show you off to his friends and family.
- Both handsome and intelligent
- Would be excited and encouraging about what happens in your life
- Looks for the fairness in a situation
- Sophisticated but not haughty
- Excellent with conflict
- Has a penchant for dying
- May have difficulty getting him one-on-one
- May schedule too many things in his day to spend time with you
- May forget to be emotional
- May be apathetic toward trying risky new things
The beautiful, composed, competitive, and super intelligent Fleur. She is at the top of her class; considered so beautiful that most of the men in the series are prey to her. She is perhaps the princess of the series with her amazing locks of hair, her precise sense of intelligence, and excellence in popularity.
As a girlfriend, she would make you look good. She would be skilled at many things, make for a clean home, and your family would love her. She would generally know what to say and when to say it. She lights up a room with her beauty and is loyal to her affections. Due to being a Veela, she has the capacity to enchant any man around her, which can be a double edged sword for her. She has deep love for her younger sister.
She is not haughty in herself and looks for men who are strong, noble, and have other strong character traits. She is not as interested in money or the dark arts. She likes for the people who she loves to be well protected, and she is won by people who care about the people she loves.
- Stunningly gorgeous
- Stunningly intelligent
- Family oriented
- Graceful, poised, and talented
- Many men will find her alluring and may draw attention
- Might seem cold at first
- May come off uptight
- May become weak from vanity
- Can be distracted by emotions in tense situations
Seemingly popular, seemingly intelligent, dates several guys in the Harry Potter series. She can be somewhat of a queen bee, on the surface charming, but underneath often lacks virtue. She is kind to Harry when she dates Cedric, and then when Cedric dies Cho and Harry unite. She experiences some jealously, particular to Hermione who she feared that Harry liked. Cho is an impressive beauty and another of team smart, but she doesn't care about people's personal relations as much, she goes for what she wants. Even when still in grief over Cedric, she kisses Harry all too soon. In the last book, she begins to talk all too friendly to Harry about the Ravenclaw horcrux and fortunately Ginny intervenes.
Cho is not the most trustable character, and may lean toward popularity rather than real interest. She favors too much her own looks and intelligence which can distract her from bigger problems that are in her face. She can be self-centered while on a date and not see the other person's perspective. She quickly rebounds from one guy to the next, from Cedric to Harry Potter to Michael Corner, a teammate on the Quidditch team. She is competitive, athletic, and in the top of her class. She has some haughtiness in being a Ravenclaw. She may dismiss some people if they are not up to her standards or cool for the time being.
She joins Dumbledore's Army when it is cool and she quits immediately when it could pose a problem for her. She is an excellent friend if she can be persuaded in time, and in relationships she may like her friends more than she likes you. She isn't the most difficult woman in the series to catch, but she is difficult to keep.
- Athletic, intelligent, and a beauty
- Easy going enough to move to new relationships
- Well respected
- Major jealously streaks
- Does not move on from relationships even if she acts like it
- Can be suffocating
- Mixed allegiance
The eldest Weasley son, he is somewhat like Mr. Darcy but with wizarding powers. He is hard working, down to earth, extremely intelligent receiving 12 O.W.L.S., was a prefect, and Head Boy. Bill is one of the more mature characters in this series, he takes his family seriously, he is a solid worker, and is well disciplined. He starts a series of ambitious siblings in the Weasley household making it difficult to keep up with all the talents.
Bill is a traditional male who would treat his wife well, stick to a regular schedule, make sure there is enough money, and would do well to raise children. He does not find himself interested in superficial or fancy matters. He would not be interested in working with activities which could give him a bad reputation. He would never date someone who his family could never agree upon, and would make sure they eventually come around to enjoying his choice of soulmate. Bill cares about schoolwork, work, marriage work -- all of it.
He is more introspective and introverted than some of his younger brothers and may be less interested in extremes like dragons and Quidditch. He would want a wife who is well marked by hospitality, good manners, and respect. He looks more to character than beauty. Even with wounds on his face, he would still march forth to a wedding. He has expert advice for those younger than him and he also has expert financial advice. He is a good teacher considering he taught Fleur English.
- Loving, caring, family-centered
- Good with money
- May be slow to taking dangerous risks
- May cause others to be envious unintentionally
- May feel a great sense of duty to his first family out of being the eldest
- Has a large family that he will require you to get along with
The Weasley Twins
They're pranksters, intelligent as all Weasleys, athletic, and somewhat sensitive. They might not have scored well on their O.W.L.S., but they prove that they are capable of sophisticated magic, and even able to run their own business off pranks. They are able to unleash a number of pranks on Umbridge as freedom fighters, and the pair are inseparable, class clowns, who love to assist Harry Potter whenever necessary.
They do not have the humbling maturity of older siblings nor the burn of feeling left behind like younger siblings. They may be so focused on jokes and games that they lose sense of practicality. Troublemaking may be their charm, but they have big hearts and no when someone is being wronged... which is why they delight in pranking their enemies to defeat. The two are much more positive in the wizarding world than other who are in fear of the dark side.
It is unfortunate that Fred ends up dying when these two are so upbeat, but George even though saddened by the loss continues the joke shop and brings smiles to millions of people. It takes skill to run a successful business and not lose your mind after it. George is an excellent mate who will keep you laughing, may have sudden bouts of romance, and will be constantly entertaining.
