With a little work, Leo and Pisces can build a beautiful and long-lasting relationship.

How Pisces and Leo Are Compatible

Leo and Pisces—what a spectacular combination. Pisces and Leo are both signs that desire relationships. They may initially confuse each other due to their different temperaments, but since they both really strongly desire love and affection, they have the potential to be blissfully happy with each other.

At the same time, however, the combination of fixed fire (Leo) and mutable water (Pisces) can pose a host of challenges. Leos can come on too strong and be a bit needy with their constant thirst for approval. These fire traits can leave Pisces drained and exhausted. On the other hand, Pisces can drown out Leo's enthusiasm and spontaneity.

A Leo is more yang and a Pisces is more yin. Think of Leo as the sun in the sky and Pisces as a moon to cater to its energy. Leo may enjoy being with Pisces, as opposed to dating someone in the same element, because a relationship with two fire signs can feel like you are both trying to pull the wagon, but in different directions or for different reasons.

Let's dig a little deeper into the joys and challenges that this pairing faces.

Leo and Pisces both crave romance, giving them the potential to create a warm and fulfilling relationship.

Leo and Pisces both crave romance, giving them the potential to create a warm and fulfilling relationship.

Are Leo and Pisces Sexually Compatible?

It can be hard for Pisces and Leo to develop a satisfying sexual relationship. While they can both be wonderful lovers, the fundamental differences between their signs mean that they often struggle to develop that shared intimacy.

Leos are straightforward and impatient, which can often make Pisces feel rushed and insecure. Naturally, this doesn't bode well for a physical relationship . . . Because these signs approach sex differently, the best way for this pair to foster a healthy sex life is to take it slow. Build the emotional trust that Pisces craves before getting frisky: this can help the relationship survive and thrive.

If, on the other hand, a Leo tries to get physical too soon, it can make them seem selfish and uncaring—a complete turn-off for Pisces—even if this couldn't be further from the truth. In turn, this can make Leo see Pisces as overly sensitive and out of touch with their own desires.

The key is for this pair to take the time to understand each other (which is necessary in any relationship, not just one between these signs!). Leos—don't burst your Pisces idealistic bubble. If you give it time, this may be one of the things you come to love about them! Pisces—don't rush to conclusions about your Leo. They may not express their feelings in the same way you do, but it doesn't mean they aren't every bit as generous and caring.

Can Leo and Pisces Learn to Trust Each Other?

Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet of the subconscious. While this ruling planet can be positive in many ways, it can also make it hard for Pisces to trust others. At the same time, Leo's tendency toward possessiveness and jealousy can make them mistrustful as well.

This combination can be very tricky to navigate and may initially lead to a series of mutual tests. For example, Pisces may withhold emotions and praise in order to test their Leo, and Leo may feign a wandering eye to get a rise out of their Pisces. This can make for a fraught first year together and create a high risk that things will fall apart.

If, however, this pair can pass the tests they set for each other and reach a deeper understanding of one another, they will have built a solid and unshakeable bond.

Can Leo and Pisces Learn to Communicate?

These signs have very different communication styles. Pisces tend to be passive and non-confrontational, but their empathic nature allows them to see Leo's hidden feelings and vulnerabilities. A Pisces can look into the eyes of a Leo and see well beyond the ego and right to the heart. This is something Leo needs because while they do like their egos stroked, they also need to understand that there is more to life than ego.

And yet, when a Pisces does speak their truth, it can be very hard for Leo to hear. At the same time, Leo's direct nature can hurt Pisces, who tend to be very sensitive.

But don't worry; this doesn't have to be the death knell for a Leo-Pisces relationship. All it means is that figuring out and respecting one another's communication styles is key. If Leo can think before they speak, making an effort to be slightly less blunt, it can make all the difference to Pisces. If Pisces can be gentle when exposing Leos' vulnerabilities, they can prevent wounding the lion's fragile ego.

What Is the Leo-Pisces Power Dynamic?

Leos are comfortable taking charge in all aspects of their lives, including their relationships. When paired with Pisces, a go-with-the-flow sign, this can create an unhealthy power dynamic. Leo needs to be the center of attention, but Pisces needs to be out of the spotlight. The self-seeking Pisces risks losing their sense of self and becoming lost in Leo's shadow.

Pisces likes to feel like they are being rescued, and Leo will gladly do that. But Pisces can also act like a knight in shining armor, providing the chivalrous gestures that Leos love. If this type of give-and-take relationship can be established (rather than one with a subject-ruler dynamic), a Pisces-Leo couple has a much better chance of surviving and thriving.

Communication and compromise are key for a Leo-Pisces relationship to work.

Communication and compromise are key for a Leo-Pisces relationship to work.

How to Make a Leo-Pisces Relationship Work

These two can help foster the warmth that they've always craved in a relationship, but it will take some effort. A Leo-Pisces couple will have to put the work in when it comes to understanding each others' differences and learning how to navigate them, especially at the beginning of the relationship. Here are five ways to help this relationship thrive:

1. Set and Maintain Boundaries

Leo needs help setting up boundaries and actually maintaining them. Leos have a habit of charging ahead because they are so excited about life, but it can get to the point where they can't hear others. Slow down, Leo! Your Pisces needs your ears and your respect.

Pisces needs help setting boundaries but for different reasons. As a water sign, Pisces doesn't naturally like boundaries; they want to go with the flow and merge with their partner. They like to feel and find a telepathic connection. Leo might find the water sign's unbridled emotions overwhelming; it's important for Pisces to understand that Leo might not be as comfortable expressing emotion, at least not until they fully trust their partner.

2. Give What You Get

Pisces loves to provide affection and Leo loves to have that affection lavished on them. The problem is that Leo doesn't always return affection. Leo needs to give as much as they take.

Leo can be good at returning love, but it's important for them to not get carried away and act like they're the only one in the relationship. Stop acting like you're entitled to affection or anything—this drives your partner crazy. Humility is more attractive than you think.

Leo, be gentle with Pisces. Make a mental note that Pisces can get overwhelmed by conflict and anger. A peaceful Leo will tend to the relationship better than an aggressive Leo.

3. Respect Your Partner's Differences

Leo wants to live a big life, a joyful life, a life of adventure, so Pisces will need to show that they can live wildly. By the same coin, Leo needs to understand that forcing a Pisces out of their comfort zone will only create resentment. To survive and thrive, the couple must learn to appreciate the ways they differ. You're going to have to compromise sometimes. Just remember: compromise is your friend, not your enemy.

4. Foster Open Communication

Leo and Pisces need to communicate openly about their expectations. This will help them find out where they need to go and whether they can do so together. They have different perspectives, therefore, talking things out should be helpful (and fascinating).

Some helpful communication tips for this couple:

  • Try not to assume things.
  • Make sure you're getting your partner's input.
  • Think before you speak, so as not to hurt your partner's feelings.
  • Take your foot out of your mouth. Feet don't taste good anyway. ;)
  • Compliment your partner more than you criticize. Reserve judgment.

5. Find a Way to Balance Yin and Yang

Remember that this is a very yin-and-yang relationship. Leo is more yang and Pisces is more yin. Leo will be drawn to Pisces because Pisces is highly creative and considerate of others. Leo is more practical than Pisces, who is full of imagination, dreams, and spirit. Leo, on the other hand, is more aware of the social world; this is why they project and peacock and take charge so much.

As a fixed sign, Leo will naturally be more stubborn, whereas Pisces is considered the most mutable sign. Pisces will take their time forming an opinion, but they may change their opinion suddenly. For example, they may secretly pine over you for a long time, but if you fail to make them feel satisfied, they're apt to change their mind and leave you for someone else.

Both Leo and Pisces place a high premium on romance and actively seek it in a relationship. Once they come to terms with each other, Leo will eagerly provide the wonderful romance Pisces desires, and Pisces will return the favor.

For all their differences, Leo and Pisces have a few key traits in common.

For all their differences, Leo and Pisces have a few key traits in common.

Shared Leo-Pisces Traits

For all their differences, these signs have a few key traits in common. Here are just a few of the important traits that Leo and Pisces share, and which can contribute to a beautiful relationship between them. Among other things, Leos and Pisces:

  • Share a mutual optimism and a desire to see the best in others.
  • Place a high value on subjective experiences.
  • Want to love and be loved.
  • Are enthusiastic and curious.
  • Are deeply romantic.

I think the core beliefs these two have in wanting, desiring, and fostering love will keep them together. Again, they both love affection, sharing their hearts, and being in a relationship.

What Are the Characteristics of a Leo?

  • Bold and Bright. Leo is the sunshine, the heat of summer. They are bright and bold, and they love to have their ego stroked. You often can tell someone is a Leo before they even start talking. They are noticeable leaders, loving the spotlight.
  • Big-Hearted: Leo wants to bring about the warmth of the world; they want to win your heart, and they are loving and protective. They love making you laugh, think, and feel. I love the warmth of Leos and how much they care about the people who are in their pack. Leo wants it all—a true give-and-take relationship where love is lavished on both partners.
  • Attention-Seeking: Leo does not like it when its affection is taken away from them. If they are not being loved enough, they get pouty or confused. They are quite easy to read when in love because they wear their heart openly, and it's plain to see that it upsets Leo if their partners give too little in the relationship.
  • Confident: Leo will peacock. They like to chase and have someone's affection. Remember sweet, gentle Pisces—you must be tender with your Leo's ego. They hold their ego dearly, and it can hurt them quite sharply if you criticize them too bluntly or often. Leo will appreciate it if you think before you speak.
  • Extroverted: Leo is a social magnet and feels comfortable in a crowd.
  • Loyal: Leo will honor you with loyalty and will do anything and everything to make sure you are okay.

What Are the Characteristics of a Pisces?

  • Extremely Giving: Pisces loves to give and give and give. Pisces would sacrifice themself for their Leo—or for any cause they find worthy. They want people to feel loved, but they need to remember that they deserve attention too. Ultimately, they want to grow with someone, but because it's easy to take advantage of them, Pisces requires a partner who is conscientious.
  • Compassionate and Kind: Pisces is always ready to help those around them, especially those in their inner circle. Their sensitivity and selflessness are why people love them.
  • Loving: Pisces are excellent at understanding unconditional love, and their mission is to express that unconditional love. It's not an easy route, and many Pisces can have a hard time with their mission and where they are headed.
  • Passive: Pisces needs to step up and make sure that they speak openly about their feelings. You need to advocate for yourself. It can be easy for Pisces to get sucked into toxic relationships and let themselves be walked all over. Pisces needs to make a pact with themselves to avoid (and leave) unhealthy relationships.
  • Intuitive: Pisces use their intuition to guide many aspects of their lives, including their relationships. They are soulful signs and can see beyond the ego.
  • Idealistic and Dreamy: Pisces are known for their boundless imaginations. They lead rich inner lives and are often torn between fantasy and reality. In fact, the sign is symbolized by two fish swimming in opposites directions—a visual representation of Pisces' struggle between fantasy and reality.
  • Easily Overwhelmed: This sign is incredibly in touch with their own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. This can easily lead to emotional overload, which can be hard on Pisces and those around them. (They're naturally empathetic, which is a good thing.)
Both Leo and Pisces can be romance junkies. They're both prone to chasing fireflies, taking walks for the joy of it, and making wishes off shooting stars.

Even the Best Relationships Take Work

It can be easy to idealize one another or put your partner on a pedestal in order to avoid tackling the hard stuff, but it's important to understand that all relationships take work. You need to consistently nourish your relationship and put practical measures into it. A healthy relationship is supported by a budget, schedule, calendar, structure, and routines. Consistency is king.

Love and expressing love are not the only parts of a relationship. Make sure you are accountable to each other.

There are a whopping 78 love combinations in the zodiac, and each combo has its pros and cons. As I have mentioned in other articles, you have seen every love match in the natural world succeed . . . and you have also seen every single love match fail. Saying which combinations are compatible and which ones are not is frankly not enough—it doesn't show the whole picture.

Each pairing is unique, putting two individuals with different views together. You will always be you and have your own mission to help bring love, enlightenment, and grace to the planet. In a relationship, you have a shared mission to bring love into the world.

I like to say that some combinations have an easier "recipe" than others, but that doesn't mean the quality is any greater or worse in the end. In other words, red velvet cake is a complicated recipe, but the final product is well worth it.

Leo-Pisces Relationship Pros and Cons

Mutual optimism and desire to see the best in others.

Both, to a degree, struggle with fantasy vs. reality.

High value for romance and affection.

Very different senses of self—big ego vs. sacrificial

Enthusiastic and curious.

Prone to ruler-subject relationship.

Questions & Answers

Question: A Leo man and a Pisces woman, is this a good pair?

Answer: All 78 combinations of romantic pairs can work out. In this world, all 78 have found marriage; and all 78 have found divorce. It's more about knowing how the blueprint works for each pair. A Leo and Pisces are a favorable match. Pisces is kind, gentle, and loving. A Pisces will stroke Leo's ego. This will likely be a traditional masculine Leo and a traditional feminine Pisces. Leo is motivated by his will, and Pisces is motivated by her emotions. The two will enjoy their partner's demeanor. Leo needs someone who is gentle, and Pisces does well with someone like Leo, who can roar when need be.

So- there's this Leo man who I really like as a pisces- and I really wanna ask him out- we've had sexual temptation and gotten into that temptation- as in- we full-filled it.. and I won't deny- it was- great- it was over the phone weird enough and we are long distant friends- he's seen more than anyone else has- and I really like him I'm just- somewhat afraid considering I always let people step allover me :/.

It can work! on February 11, 2020:

I am a Pisces woman & he is a Leo man. Our relationship is WONDERFUL! We have been exclusively been dating for a little over 3 years, and have never had an argument. Sure we disagree, but we agreed early on that we would put our issues on the table and have an open/honest discussion. That is exactly what we've done and continue to do. We built a friendship before we became intimate. Even after becoming intimate (which was & is beautifully intense and passionate to date), we continue to strengthen our relationship as we progress. I say all this to say - I'm not convinced the astrologers are right... Some things line up and some don't! I wish you all happiness no matter who you are with!!!

pisces gal on January 26, 2020:

been with a leo man for 11 years, married to him for 6 years now. honestly, not the most perfect match but sometimes you can't choose who you fall in love with. it's a case of opposites attract, he didn't like me at first but I kept being persistent and befriended him. we hit alot of rough patches along the way, separated for 3 years. different opinions, different love language but he treated me like a queen and loved me like no has ever loved me before. he has a fiery temper, just let it burn out and dont take his tantrums seriously so you wont get hurt. he's really sensitive and egotistic acts like a lion but deep down, he's a kitten and a really good guy. we have a son and he's also a leo so i'm learning to have alot of patience. my advice is that you find other suitable signs to be your mate but if you accidently fall in love with a leo, you can make the best out of it and you always end up being together again. definitely one of the best, most passionate, and rollercoaster of a relationship. definitely not boring and as all pisces know-- we hate boring. goodluck!

I am a Pisces female with a Leo male. This article was so accurate that I made him read it. We have been together for 3 years so far and the love is inevitable! We are definitely opposites but in a way we are the same! There is a healthy balance between us two! The relationship has been great from our meeting each other but we did go through a rough patch with figuring each other out in our first year of being together. Once we got past learning each other and our love languages. The relationship has had such an unforced flow to it. Our relationship is not perfect no because we are imperfect people. But he is my first TRUE LOVE we’ve added a daughter to this love, and she has made it even better. Our parenting with each other is amazing! This Leo man is my night in shining amour! I say if you are a Pisces woman and you run into a Leo, give it a shot! Because I love mine ❤️

Pisces man with Leo woman on January 15, 2020:

I am married to a Leo woman. The relationship did not work for the past 20 years. It won't work for the next twenty as well. We are two different people under one roof bound by a mortgage and two kids.

So, based on my experience, Pisces and Leo is a match made in hell. It just won't work. If you have to keep accommodating the other (both parties) it is not worth doing it for your entire life. Know that you have your limitations in understanding the other. Yes, you understand and want to accomodate. But, Pisces, why are you getting pushed out of your comfort zone all the time? Why is it so difficult for Leo to understand the Pisces. Again, it is a match made in hell. Don't go for it.

When i was in my mid 20s i dated a leo woman in her early lasted about 3 years or so. When it was good it was really good...but when it was got really really bad....all these years later, i chock it up to our both being young and not yet in touch with who we were as individuals...Now, in my mid 50s ive met a leo woman in her late 40s n it seems GREAT right now. We truly seem to compliment each other and want the same things. It has developed rather quickly, but i think this will last for a lifetime to come. Thanks.

Leo woman + Pisces man relationship on and off since we were 17.... I hurt him at 17, he hurt me at 30. Took 10 years to get over it and now at 40 we are back together. Finally we can understand each other and accept our love is not going away and never has.

Funny how this wonderful man brought up the hurt I caused him at 17 like it was just yesterday. He never knew he hurt me deeply at 30 because I was too proud to let him see it. Now I’ve soften my edges and can express my deepest emotions with all pride aside. Taking fear out of the equation of our relationship allowing Leo woman show the Pisces man her inner depths of soul connection love she truly feels for him.

Honestly, we’ve both accepted that our attraction isn’t going away. In his later years he has also gained insight into himself knowing what he needs and desires. It’s always had to be his decision first to make us work but now I understand it’s also my decision as well.

Our sex is the best ever at this point since we’ve established a solid foundation from our past. It’s open and he doesn’t hold back, it’s more Leo women me holding back honestly. He’s waking around naked while I’m being timid and shy. He’s the best lover I’ve ever been with in my life.

My moon is in Pisces and my sun is in Leo. His moon is in Pisces and his sun is in Aries. I think this is why our love affair has been on and off for 25 years...and now we understand each other so it will last this time I’m deeply hoping. This Leo will never not feel for her Pisces man on a soul love depth of connection.

,and i never saw the breakup unto it happened! WHAM!!!!! My whole world collapsed! Well, my friend, I'll call him Ron, we had reconnected through Facebook and he had sent me a meme and I was like I'm really not in the mood right now. He asked what was wrong and i told him what had happened. He told me that i didn't lose anyone or anything that my current ex boyfriend did because he lost someone who loved and cared for him very much. And also that God had removed him from my life to make way for better things to come. I said you know that makes sense! So anyway, Ron came and picked me up that night and we grilled out at his house, he works 2nd and a 3rd shift, we talked about old times, laughed about alot of things we each had forgotten about. Talked about our friends, both who are still present and those who have past away.

We have been seeing each other ever since and i couldn't be happier! He is an Introvert though but he will go to a few places with me. In all the years I've known him I've never heard a harsh word come out of his mouth. I pray this will be the last relationship I'm ever in. If it's not we will remain friends.

As we have gotten right to the point about sexual preferences, I think that my passiveness and understanding is perfect for his bold and fearless personality. I feel that once we truly get to know each other better and work out our differences, we could (and will?) be “A Match Made In Heaven”.

To the Author: You couldn't have hit the nail on the head any straighter, this assessment is directly on point. I'm a Leo and my wife is the Pisces......she is the yin to my yang. While the struggle has sometimes been rough, there have, is, and will continue to be smoother paths. With the total and complete differences you noted between the signs alone we add yet another major difference, which is that we're from two totally different cultures, which comes with it's own differences. We married 31 years ago when I was the ripe young age of 19, still married today and looking forward to the next 31 years. So I wholeheartedly agree with you, "A Love Match Made in Heaven"!

Well I'm in a relationship with a LEO MAN , and all I can say is yes the first year was and has been the most toughest year of all my relationships. I've never in my life loved as much as I love my Leo. I am pieces and our comparability as well as our compatibility are unbelievably good together. We are proof of that so hands down are we meant to be I VOTE YES 1000% WE ARE

"strong, feral, bestial, commanding, SOLITARY" this totally nails my person to a T. All this warm, generous hippy shit isn't really the Leo type. We do get warm and generous when we're happy and treated well but our base nature is the above.

Lions4Eva on September 05, 2018:

Ehhhh...please stop making Leo overly soft. It is a powerful, aggressive, fierce, dominant, temperamental LION. And when lions are threatened, they don't sulk of pout, they roar and attack. Fiercely.

So modern astrologers really have to do a better job of portraying the lion for what it is. A powerful warrior and apex predator that can most CERTAINLY defend itself if threatened, certainly against a little fish.

Leo was described as a "strong, feral, bestial, commanding, SOLITARY sign." It's high time modern astrologers go back to those descriptions rather than the annoying and overly soft "warm, generous, creative, charismatic, etc." that hardly sound like lions.

Often with this pairing: happy. The strengths of their personalities match each other.
