Rev. Margaret Minnicks is an ordained Bible teacher. She writes many articles that are Bible lessons.
My job is relocating me to your city, and I am wondering if I would be welcomed in your church.
To help me find a church that would be a good match for my family and me, please answer the following questions and send them to me as soon as possible. This will help me decide where my family and I will worship and serve in our new location.
Are you ANOINTED to be the pastor of the church?
Do you and your congregation BELIEVE in the BIBLE and everything it says?
Is your CHURCH one without a spot or wrinkle? Or is Ichabod written on the door?
Do you have the gift of DISCERNMENT to know when my family and I are hurting?
Do you teach ETERNAL LIFE for God's people?
Do you FEAR the Lord? Here FEAR means reveling the Lord instead of being afraid of Him.
Is GOD the center of your preaching and teaching? Does GOD show up in every area of your church; especially in your church meetings?
Do you rely on the HOLY SPIRIT to lead and guide you to be an effective pastor to the people?
Do you worship IDOLS?
Is the JESUS you preach about on Sunday your Lord and Savior the rest of the week?
Do you believe people care how much you KNOW more than they KNOW how much you care?
Do you LOVE the Lord with all your heart, body, mind and soul and others as you LOVE yourself?
Do you MODEL Jesus?
Do you teach everyone to love their NEIGHBOR as themselves?
Do you believe OBEDIENCE is better than sacrifice?
Do you PRAY without ceasing? Is a PRAISE always on your lips?
Do you spend QUALITY and QUIET time with God?
Are you in RIGHT standing with God?
Are you SAVED or do you just pretend to be?
Do you TEACH the unadulterated word of God?
What is UNIQUE about your church?
Do you consider your church to be VICTORIOUS?
What is the extent of your WORSHIP? Is it limited to just on Sundays?
Do you have the spirit of XERXES? So that you don't have to research his name, he was the King of Persia in the book of Esther.
Are you YEARNING for the return of Jesus?
Is there ZEAL in your heart for God?
Reason For This Letter
Pastor, while you might think this is an unusual letter, I believe it will save me a tremendous amount of time. I do not want to take my family to a church where "No" is the answer to most of the above questions.
Please respond to the above questions as soon as possible so I can make a decision about the church you lead. I have sent the same letter to over 173 pastors in your area. I haven't heard from half of them even though the letter was sent over three months ago. Pastors who responded were not able to say "Yes" to many of my questions.
One pastor sent his questionnaire back without answering any of the questions. He did have this response: "No church is perfect. If our church was perfect, it wouldn't be after you and your family arrive!"
Another pastor sent the questionnaire back. Instead of answering my questions, he reworded them and sent them back to me to answer about myself.
Hoping to hear from you soon!
A Servant of the Lord who is seeking a church home.

Sanxuary, thanks a lot for reading and sharing your detailed comments.

The first problem is you do not need a church to belong to. Everything you learn about god is an Individual choice and you can only mature spiritually by practicing what you learn every day. Sadly most people go to church to belong to a group. A lot of them practice nothing and most begin to judge one another. If you get caught up in the Earthly agendas instead of seeking the Heavenly purpose towards spiritual maturity. You will be just another club member and miss the journey completely. Everyones journey is different and so is their purpose. To get started read the Bible and ask yourself how does this effect my personal sanctuary, the sanctuary of my home and family and the sanctuary of others. The Bible is less about sin and more about making good and wise decisions. Dont let it change your life at first but let it change your life by understanding how to be wise. Children are selfish because they must save their own souls first and then we grow up and become less selfish. Believing in God is like a drug addict attempting to change their life. It takes a while to recognize evil and to demand that evil must leave. Your life is not going to change because you simply believe. Its deciding that your sanctuary is filled with good decisions. You may recognize that people have to change or leave, the job you do is evil and your life must change. Everything here on Earth might be terrible but if everything is alright between you and God you will find purpose. So many people attend church and never start in heaven. They are consumed by their Earthly agendas and never practice anything and wonder why they never find any change in their lives. My point is no Church has ever taught me this. No Church understood why I denounce politics in church. Why I would quit a high paying job because it serves an evil purpose. Why I often find myself listening to everyone cry about things that are unimportant in Heaven. If God gave humanity free will then why would he prevent humanity fromn its own destruction? If we are completly devoid of spiritual maturity and have free will then how mature can we become in such a short life? If we have free will then how could we expect all others to meet are demands? We can hope we meet in Heaven but this an individual journey and we judge ourselves. its our personal relationship with God that decides where we have been and how we get their. Never allow anyone or any church to decide your relationship with God. The purpose of the journey can take you places many would never go. Most people are still stuck on Earth.

I actually sent an email to a minister at FUMC in Houston to see whether I fit in there. I think it is a good idea to scope out the situation before you become enmeshed in an organization. We had the same idea!
Here is the pertinent part of the email with response.
Jay, I don't have any idea of a teacher who teaches this. I know the books of the Bible they are studying, but not the specifics of how they teach it. I can ask around.
